General Questions

  • How safe is it to do the procedure?
    • Very safe.  Cosmetic surgery has generally the same risk as other general surgery procedure of its same level.  Since we in COSMEDICS do all our surgical procedures in the hospital, all necessary emergency equipment, medications and medical personnel needed are available 24 hrs a day.  We even offer special nurses to personally take care of you while you recuperate.  Since surgical procedures are done in the operating room, maintenance of sterility of the area is enforced, unlike in clinics where street clothes and shoes are going back and forth.
  • Can you do several procedures in one sitting?
    • Yes.  A lot of our patients come in for one procedure but request for other procedures to be done simultaneously to save time and money, aside from the pain that they will also endure for one time only.  However, there are certain procedures that cannot be done in one sitting.  We then do the other procedure a day or a few days after the first one.
  • What are the most common procedures for overseas patients?
    • Overseas clients would usually have more than one procedure done to save time and money going back and forth.  The procedures done vary but the usual cases we get are breast augmentation, eyelid and nose surgery, liposuction and hair transplant procedures. These can be combined with other minor procedures such as teeth whitening, wrinkle treatment, Botox injections, etc.
  • I would like to have a certain cosmetic surgery done on me but I don't know if the result will fit me. How will I know?
    • You need not travel to get a professional opinion. All you need to do is just fill out the request form (just 5 minutes) and attach pictures of yourself focusing on your problem areas.  Kindly refer to our before and after pictures to have an idea on how to take your pictures.  Do not worry.  Your pictures will be handled with utmost privacy.  We will respond to you in a few days through email and even give you a secure line wherein you can speak to our doctors to get their professional advise.
  • How long does the procedure take and how long do I have to stay in Manila (Philippines) before I can go home?
    • Minor procedures such as dermal fillers do not require you to stay for follow-up.  You may go home right after the procedure.  For medium operations such as eyelid, nose and chin surgery, we usually require patients to stay within the vicinity of Metro Manila for at least 5-7 days.  For major procedures such as facelift, tummy tuck, etc., we require patients to stay for about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks.  Upon submitting your request form on your inquiry, we will send you the package cost as well as what to expect before, during and after the procedure.

Abdominoplasty and Liposuction

  • I am interested in a "tummy tuck" operation and liposuction procedures. What do I need to know?
    • "Tummy tuck" or abdominoplasty is a procedure wherein excess fat and skin in the abdomen is removed to make it more flat-looking less bulging. Liposuction is the removal of fat in unwanted by suctioning using rigid metal tubes inserted through very small, inconspicuous incisions.  The need of either one varies from person to person. It is best that you send us your photograph and details of your age, gender, height, weight and waist line, along with past history of previous operations/procedures done in the abdominal area to help our doctors advise you of the best way to manage this problem.
  • Is liposuction a risky procedure?
    • All surgical procedures have risks. In liposuction, complications such as internal bleeding  can be prevented by checking bleeding parameters. Infection chances are lessened by doing the procedure in the operating room with a very sterile environment. Local tumescent anesthesia also greatly reduces complications. Tumescent liposuction is now one of the safest cosmetic surgical procedures. A good and knowledgeable surgeon will also help reduce risks.  Know your doctors.
  • Will the fat go back after liposuction?
    • Fat cells removed do not go back.  However, if you do not have good eating habits and proper diet,  your remaining fat cells will not increase in number, but the size of each fat cell.
  • Do we have to keep track of our diet after the procedure?
    • Liposuction and abdominoplasty are the quick ways of getting rid of excess fat.  However, we still have to maintain a certain diet to keep that shape.  We believe in the holistic approach in all our clients.  As a commitment to this, all our liposuction and abdominoplasty patients undergo consultation with our weight management doctor expert to help them maintain their present weight, the healthy way.
  • What is the necessary information a person who would like to get liposuction done should know?
    • You should ask the doctor’s advice about this. Usually, a person who would like to get liposuction done would have to stop anti-platelet medicine 10 days before the surgery. If you are over 40 years an EKG (electrocardiogram) test, chest X-ray, and complete blood count check will be required.
    •      There have been a small number of incidents of liposuction complications and fatalities.  The main reason for this is local anesthesia overdose.  Almost all of these cases were done in the clinic and thus are done under local anesthesia only.  Due to the large volume of fat to be removed, they tend to give more local anesthesia and thus are prone have overdose.  We do all our abdominal liposuction under regional anesthesia with a certified anesthesiologist to monitor the patient for the whole duration of the procedure.
